Looking into getting a small greenhouse. Anyone have pictures of your greenhouses? Also I live in the Midwest. How do you keep the greenhouse warm enough in the winter?

I’m in a pretty similar situation, I have a moveable shelf with a greenhouse plastic case thing around it for humidity, it’s great for keeping humidity up for some of my flowers but depending on what your looking for it may not be what you want

I’m not sure what I want, I’m concerned if I have a set up then fill it with plants for the summer and fall, when winter comes it might get to cold and I won’t have space in the house for them all. I want to grow mostly house plants and a few garden things

That’s definitely a valid fear lol. The way I do it is I have a spot for the shelf inside too, so depending on how big of one you get it can be more of a challenge but for the most part i haven’t had any problems, I also try to pick native plants or plants that can stay outside (even if it’s covered) so if I have to they can stay outside in the winter. Ive done both and both work pretty well. I’m also thinking about getting a more permanent indoor greenhouse since I’m more into house plants then garden plants so if you really want it’s also an option to find one that fits in your house all year (Sorry if this doesn’t make sense I can clarify anything if I sound crazy lol)

An indoor greenhouse isn’t a bad idea. Might have to look into that. I am also worried about the wind here for an outside one. We often get 50 mph winds during the winter

I keep mine under a covered area so I don’t have to worry about that as much, I put mine outside for the warmth so my hibiscus will bloom, so I can’t vouch for if it’s a good idea or not, but either way if your going to use it more for house plants indoor may be the way to go, just make sure you’ll have room for them after they mature. It’s easy to get cute little cuttings on Etsy but soon they will take over your house lol

I live in California so I can’t say for how well they’ll maintain heat in the Midwest. but with my grow lights it stays toasty inside mine just from the grow lights

I live in kentucky and have a nice 6x8 ft one with plastic panels. You definitely want a shade cloth or your plants will roast in summer. I tried heating it one year with a little space heater, but that turned out to be very expensive. So far I've just struggled with overwintering potted plants in general

I got the Work Pro one off Amazon and I like it. Currently I have a board up top where a mini space heater sits and I only turn it on when we are getting in the 30's or below.

I wrapped it in a layer of frost cloth as well, so when I zip it up I pull the cloth down and tuck it in the sides for extra insulation and it's been working great.

How do the plants get light with the frost cloth?

I live in the south so I leave it open most of the time and on the nights that it gets in the 40's below I zip it up. My cacti are dormant so the only thing really needing sun is it Hoya which gets loads of light where it is. You could just leave the frost cloth off and only use the heater, but it has to work harder. I have the frost cloth on currently for preparation for a big winter storm this weekend where we are expecting ice and snow with temps in the 10's. After that I will most likely take the cloth off for the rest of winter. We usually only get one winter storm even here then it tends to warm up fast.

This is my greenhouse inside except i don't have the cover on it right now and please don't look at the mess. It's an east facing window

I feel like the most you can do is either put a heater which works well if you have a continuous snow. Even if you just get the greenhouse it usually should retain heat due to the sun but good luck
