Is this golden pothos propagation ready to plant?
Pothos are pretty hearty, it would probably do fine in soil now that roots have emerged. I’ve actually heard that the longer you keep pothos in water, the harder it is for the plant to adjust to soil. By that mindset, it would be best to plant them as soon as roots start to form. Personally I’ve planted the cuttings straight in soil, and I’ve also left cuttings in water for months before planting in soil, and had similar results in both cases.
2 gillningarThank you! I put it in water about 2 months ago so I’ll go ahead and plant it!
0 gillningarThe roots seem small for 2mo of growth?! Do you add any nutrients to the water?
1 gillause a teeny tiny pot. Like 2”
1 gillaI’d wait but it can be done
1 gillaHow long would you wait? Until the roots are a certain length
0 gillningarOh thanks!
0 gillningarYes you can put it in soil. I would use a very small pot for now. Also something I wish I had known years ago - “water roots” have a hard time transitioning to soil if it’s too dense, due to lack of oxygen. Since water is just hydrogen and oxygen, roots in water have easy access to oxygen all the time in water. If they get transferred to soil that’s too dense, they get suffocated. An easy solution to this is to pot them up in a more aerated mix. I have a pothos growing in just orchid bark, perlite, and coco chips, so don’t worry about making the mix too chunky.
