Help! Am I propagating my spider plant properly?
I believe there’s typically a chute that the spider babies grow off, not just the usual leaves! Wait until one of those comes out and you see growth!
3 gillningarSo I should take them out of the water?
1 gillaYes!
1 gillaWhen you have a baby forming you can either cut it off and place that in water or keep it attached to the mother plant and set it in soil until it roots into the soil, then cut it off. Wait until there is a few small roots on the baby before cutting it.
1 gillaOmg someone on here lied to me and told me to do this. I don’t know who to believe
0 gillningarThe leaves don’t produce the babies, there will be another stem that will grow out of it. Maybe they meant that? I’m not sure. I’ll share a picture of what the other stem will look like as mine has one right now!
1 gillaI agree with everything SuccaForPlants says!
2 gillningarIt will take time and the right care, but it will eventually put out a baby shoot that will flower and then grow babies. Wait until the babies start growing little root stubs, and then you can cut them off and pop them into a cup of water. Leave it for a few weeks, and then you can plant it once it has more roots. Putting leaves in the water will unfortunately do nothing.
1 gillaUm, no, I hate to break it to you! As others have stated, spider plants will send out a shoot, like harder than a normal leaf. Then new baby spider plants will grow off of that. Those are what you then cut and put in water. I don’t have any of those but I do have pothos in a cup of water propagating. Here’s a pic. The little white thing coming off a green stem is the new roots!
2 gillningarThank you!!!
