I’m interested in putting my indoor plants outside for the summer. Does anyone do this? I heard good things. I was going to put them on our table under our umbrella. I have about 16 of them. Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks!

What plants are they?
1 gillaChristmas cactus, ZZ’s, snakes, etc. low maintenance house plants
1 gillaAlso, how much heat happens in the summer at your house?
1 gillaI’m in PA. Average heat.
1 gillaIm in Iowa. I have put my cacti outside in summer months, but not the others. I am interested to hear what people have to say.
1 gillaSome plants like it if they are really tropical. My issue is when they come back in, they aren’t alone. Pests! And then they are in your house and you’ll fight them for the rest of the year.
9 gillningarBe gradual about the temperature/light change to avoid shocking the plants. Keep an eye on them for the first few days and on any hotter days for dehydration or overheating issues. be aware that ceramic or metal pots can heat up as well and scorch the plant from the roots. Most tropicals love spending summer outdoors, but a little caution will help

1 gillaI’d put them outside, but if they start not doing well, bring them back in
1 gillaI put quite a few out (30+) every year. I put a few out on too hot of a day this spring and scorched a few this year. So…put them out a short amount of time or on a cooler day to get acclimated. The Christmas cactus prefers to be a little protected and shady. I always bring it in the garage if heavier rain is coming as it doesn’t like being repeatedly soaked. Rain 1 day is fine, but then if it rains a 2nd or 3rd day, it doesn’t like repeatedly getting soaked. I did have a snake plant break a leaf in a heavy wind last year when another plant fell on it. But they love being outside. I do treat for pests for a couple weeks before bringing back in for the fall.
1 gillaI put out my 3 Thanksgiving/Christmas cactus. They’re under the table umbrella. It’s been in the 90tys so maybe I’ll bring them in til it’s gets cooler. How do you treat for pests?
