Hi so I’ve noticed that I’ve got my normal watering schedules on Planta, but there are also some days where I have like 12 plants just to “mist.” If I have a pebble water tray for humidity, is the misting still needed? Or is misting for a different reason? Also, is there an option to let Planta know you have a pebble tray so it quits telling you to mist? Pebble tray picture for attention!

Yes you can go to settings > plant care > turn off mist notifications

Can I replace the misting with the pebble tray? Idk if they’re both for humidity or have different things they’re needed for

It doesn’t have an option for a pebble tray that I know of. For my plants that are nearby my humidifier I make a new Site for them and say that area has high humidity rather than normal.

I prefer a humidifier even a small one is better than misting. Misting sprays large water droplets that sit on the leaves taking longer to dry out. These large droplets block the plants transpiration process where leaves release excess water. There slow drying larger droplets provide moisture for fungus/mold spores. A humidifier produce fine water vapor that easily absorbs into the leaves and quickly dries. I’ve found pebble trays ineffective unless they are large, a full sheet cake area.

Yes mine is an old cookie tray I never use lol. The whole front part of my house is full of rocks. So I made the best I could with what I have. I may need to rearrange my living room in order to accommodate a humidifier. I’m gonna see how this pebble tray does first.

Do you leave your plant on the pebble tray always or just on certain days? I'm new and I have a plant that requires humidity. I may try this!

I actually just started the pebble tray a couple days ago, specifically for my calathea, she is an absolute DRAMA QUEEN lol. She’s doing ok but her leaves are curling around the edges so bad. To me, I’d rather try the pebble tray than the humidifier, for now at least. I’ll let you know how it does.

Yes, definitely update! I was looking into a small humidifier, but I'm not sure what to do! I heard spraying directly for humidity could cause mold and fungus, definitely don't want that. lol I have a Peace Lily, she's my first plant, I'm trying to make sure she stays in good condition. So far, great. BUT I just got her so... lol

This whole humidity thing has been an issue for me as well. I don’t want a humidifier because I just don’t. I’ve misted daily. I’ve used pebble trays and misted daily. I’ve just used pebble trays. For me, the pebble trays seemed to have helped the most and I’ve not really noticed any additional benefit to misting with them. I still do randomly, but not daily. I do have to watch the trays though. They dry up way faster than I thought they would!

And yes, I just turned off the misting notifications. I check out my plants daily really, so it’s not a problem to keep up with the trays.

If you decide on getting a humidifier, invest in a large room size device. The little tiny canister humidifiers are pretty much worthless. I’ve tried them. I place mine on a stand to get the humidity up higher in the air. Current set up I have one. Had two of the same running since last fall. But spring rains have brought moisture so was able to reduce down to one for this room.

I agree one big one works best. A lot more time can go by between fillings, for one.

I’ve found a humidifier works best in a closed room. Otherwise the plants need to be directly next to the humidifier to benefit. Regarding misting, I’ve turned off all my misting notifications, except for ferns. I shower my plants just about every time I water them (those that the leaves can get wet, that is). This helps keep the plants clean, and prevents/removes pests. I haven’t had fungal issues. If your home/room has good air circulation, wet plants should be fine.

I just ignore when they say mist a lot of times. Even though they give advice we still have to use our own judgement sometimes.
