Iâd be happy to help with this one. Itâs a sweet and sour peperomia obtusifolia. Iâve got two of them and they are fantastic plants. Iâd be happy to share a few tips for them: - treat it like a succulent. Itâs an epiphytic plant, which means it need a very well-draining soil in order to survive in soil as a houseplant. I swear by Espomaâs Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix for mine. Please avoid Miracle Growâs soil, even their cactus mix. It simply isnât well-draining enough for this type of plant and could quickly lead to overwatering and root rot. - they like being snug in their pots and getting rootbound. I would either keep it in the size pot itâs in or downsize it if you find itâs too big of a pot for it to be in. It shouldnât be in anything wider than 1-2 inches in diameter to the width of the plantâs root ball. - let the soil completely dry out between waterings. An easy way to check if the soil is dry enough is to stick a bamboo/barbecue skewer all the way to the bottom of the soil, then taking it out. If the soil sticks to it, wait at least 2 days, then check again. If the skewer comes out clean and dry, with nothing sticking to it, it should be safe to water. I wait at least 11-14 days before watering my peperomia obtusifolias. The key with them is to make sure you donât overwater them. - they donât tend to need extra humidity when indoors. Donât mist them, and they donât need a pebble tray. Either option doesnât really increase humidity for plants anyways. They donât like the cold, though, so avoid placing them in drafty windowsills, frequently opened doors, and air vents. Pull them from cold places in the winter. - a great way to water them while keeping the leaves dry is to place the plant into a bowl/container with water for 10-20 minutes, then take it out to drain in a sink or dry over a terracotta saucer. This is called bottom-watering. It helps lower the chances of attracting pests to moist top soil, prevent overwatering, and strengthens the root system. - peperomias thrive in lower light conditions, like a north-facing windowsill, and only need 2-4 hours of light; but in lower light conditions they need to be in the windowsill or within 1ft of the window. The obtusifolia variety also does great in brighter light conditions. You can gradually expose yours to even a south-facing windowsill by gradually moving it closer to such a window over the span of a few weeks. Mine all sit in south-facing windowsills where they get 6-8 hours of sun. My point is that theyâll do just fine regardless of how much light you get in your home. Youâll probably find theyâll grow much faster in brighter light, though. Thatâs about it! Theyâre very low maintenance as long as theyâre in a well-draining soil and given time to completely dry out, yours should hopefully treat you as well as mine do đ Hope this helps.

1 gilla No problem! đ The other thing Iâd like to add from my experience from rehabbing plants from Loweâs and Home Depot is to quarantine any of those new plants in case they have any pests or fungal infections that could spread to the rest of your collection. I quarantine mine away from the rest of my plants for a month (somewhere with light for them), then check them after 30 days to see if theyâre safe to join the rest of my plants. I use Bonideâs Insecticidal soap to spray the leaves and soil even if I donât spot any pests, just in case something wants to try crawling out. And from my experience with the peperomias at Loweâs, they tend to be potted in much more peat-heavy soil that can be too moisture-holding for this type of peperomia, so you might want to remove some of it and replace it with some fresh cactus mix. Like I said, I swear by Espoma, but any other cactus/succulent mix that isnât Miracle Grow brand should do. Some of the other plants you have might be more sensitive to having their leaves cleaned, so just double check online if they can be treated with insecticidal soap or not before spraying the other plants, but I know itâs safe for peperomia obtusifolia. Just wanted to give that heads up. I love box stores like Loweâs for a good bargain or rehab project to get my hands dirty, but itâs important to know they donât tend to be as well cared for as a nursery, and often come with pests.

0 gillningar As for the Aglaonema: - you might want to repot it into something smaller. Similar to peperomias, they need well-draining soil and to be snug in their pots. Opt for something no more than 1-2 inches wider than the diameter of the root ball like I said earlier. If it is in a self-watering pot, get it out of that immediately. You could probably repot it with Espomaâs Cactus Mix like Peperomias, or Espomaâs All-Purpose Potting Mix or FoxFarmâs Ocean Forest soil with some added perlite and orchid bark for extra drainage. - They do great in a variety of lighting situations. I kept mine in a north-facing window and it grew a new leaf every 2 weeks in the summertime. They can handle being in brighter conditions too, but anything more than 6-8 hours of sun from a window and you might wanna pull it a little farther from a windowsill; keep it within a foot of a brighter light source, though. Iâd opt for an east/west-facing window that offers around 4-6 hours of sun a day. - I let mine completely dry out between their waterings. Try to keep their leaves dry. Most of what I said about peperomias applies to aglaonemas in terms of their care. Bottom-watering, allowing the soil to dry out, and keeping them in smaller pots with well-draining soil is key. Some find theyâre quite low-maintenance, and other have a tough time with them. From my experience with mine (before I had to give it away after inheriting my dog đ¶), it was very easy care as long as I bottom-watered it, and did very well with Osmocote Slow-Release Fertilizer Pellets. - The biggest difference between care for this one and the peperomia is that peperomias are non-toxic to people and pets, but aglaonema is very toxic if eaten by pets, particularly cats and dogs, so if you have either, keep it in a room with a closing door so you can keep any curious friends from trying to eat it.
