if i buy a spider plant, how long would i have to wait for it to have babies? i cant wait to propagate loads and plant them.

A full size plant can produce spider babies right away if the care is right. They like bright light, well draining soil, watering when almost dry and regular fertilizer in the growing season. The one in the attached picture is about 4 months old. It started blooming last week. Spider babies will follow. It gets full sun the first 4 hours from sunrise. It’s in bright shade the rest of the day. It has Osmocote granular fertilizer in the soil.

great care tips. i actually usually wait to let all the soil dry on my spider plants though, the tuberous roots appreciate drought, it’s easier for me, and i like to see the growth spurts that follow a watering
1 gillaThat’s a good point. Most of the varieties I have get completely dry between waterings and look great. My largest Bonnie curly spider plant hates going completely dry. It slumps, produces dry leaf tips and cuts off moisture to the spider babies. It’s in a coco coir potting mix with over 20 plants in a 6 inch pot. That might be the reason it acts desperate for water.

sounds like that’s exactly it. i have an overcrowded 30+ year old green spider plant that requires water more often than others that are less densely planted. mine also wilts and we end up with little blue spider babies if i wait too long between waterings

you can likely get spider plants for free if you look around. facebook marketplace and free stuff websites are great for free plants. many people are getting rid of cuttings (or pups) and whole plants. spider plants especially are prolific; i have several i’m looking to get rid of
