What are some must-have plants every plant person should have? Maybe youâve had a plant and itâs pretty fun to take care of (Not that plants arenât fun to take care of, I mean like you see results quicker) or theyâre beautiful, or theyâre unique in some way, or for any other reason.
Yeah I was going to say pothos, too! And Iâm not a pothos junkie or anything but they are kind of the whole package. String of things such as string of pearls or hearts are always my faves for seeing the progress and theyâre pretty. I hate things that grow too quickly and you have to have to trim and propagate all the time.

I think anything Calathea. They can be challenging but rewarding when you figure out their sweet spot. The fact that they move (Pray) is pretty cool because your plant looks different every day.

I donât know that this is a must have but I would say philodendrons are pretty gratifying. They are not my favorite plants but they do fill a space nicely especially if youâre looking for vertical interest. This is my golden pothos that had no trailing vines when I bought it⊠5 months of growth. I have cut it all the back (no trails) and itâs already filling in like a boss.
When I say vining I mean trailing
1 gilla 2 of my pothos grow outdoors for their growing season. As soon as my night temperatures are a consistent 55 degrees with no chance of frost, they go straight out to hanging under my gazebo. This golden pothos gets âdirectâ morning sun around 9am for an hour or so. I live in a sub tropical climate on the east coast so plenty of warmth and humidity. My neon pothos gets very late dappled afternoon sun. They do get fed fish emulsion or kelp when I remember, which is not often lol. As far as watering, I let them dry out almost completely then thoroughly water, sometimes with tap and sometimes rain water (which ever is most convenient at the time). And cycle repeats đ I truly recommend growing outdoors if possible.
0 gillningar Wow. I have a few questions: 1. When you say 55 degrees, do you mean Fahrenheit or Celsius? 2. When you say you dry them out completely, do you mean completely drying out the top layers of soil, or completely drying out the entire soil contents including the soil at the very bottom to the very top? 3. So you keep them indoors, until the night temp is a consistent 55 degrees then you let them grow outdoors? Do you slowly adjust them to growing outdoors, or do you just bring them outside? When they are inside, what direction do they face? When they are outside, what direction do they face? 4. In what way do you prune your pothos?
1 gilla My apologies, when the temp is 55 degrees Fahrenheit outdoors and there is no chance of frost, I put it on a coffee table in my gazebo (bright light, dappled sun) for probably about 3 days then hang it up to where it receives direct light. Watering: no set schedule. When I say almost completely dry, I mean (not the top layer) the entire pot. There may still be a bit of âslightâ moisture at the core but a good indication is when I can see that the soil is pulling away from the sides of the pot and Iâve become keen to the weight of the pot and that cool spongy feeling, I know if I can wait one more day. Itâs within my path so I know to check it few days. Transitioning indoors is a little different. Depending on the weather (sub tropical in Virginia Beach) I may go until November and as always, if there will be frost it goes inside and stays. Indoors: South facing double glass door so it receives plenty of indirect light. Pruning: I will show you some pics so you can see that I really took it all the way back making sure to leave the healthiest leaves.
The cuts have shrunk back from where I made the initial cuts.
Spider plants, ferns, cacti, holiday cacti

Spider plants are super easy and beautiful in a trailing pot, pothos would be great too since its a beginner plant, a mother of millions is also pretty easy to care for (warning they grow super fast since their babies fall from their leaves), beyond that i definitely recommend a swiss cheese plant or alocasia (very big when grown) since theyre also pretty easy to care for
