Does anyone know if this is normal? This stem was like pure white and today looks like this… Not sure if this is what happens when the leaf is starting to form?

You may have some mold/fungus issues. Alocasias actually prefer a more airy forest floor mix type of soil (not what they sell you the plant in) so that it can breathe between waterings. So if you are keeping this constantly moist it will start to rot. Change the soil to aroid mix and wipe off the mold with a fungicide, it will eventually start growing and keeping more than 2 leaves at a time if you do this. You might also want to cut the entire inflorescence (flower) off to dedicate all of its energy to creating new leaves, especially if you are transplanting to new substrate.

Also FYI, thats pretty much what the flower looks like, its not going to keep developing into some fabulous colorful flower… that’s it. 😉 Little weird alien bulb thing. Kinda neat, but takes a lot of energy.

Also, any natural remedies for a fungicide? I hate using chemicals.

Cinnamon, hydrogen peroxide 3%, backing soda in water. Choose one option, not all 3 at the same time 😅

That’s a flower. If a plant flowers, it means it’s happy. The yellow coloring on the shrivel flower is pollen. It’ll be sticky. No need to worry. No need to disturb your plant. Here’s a picture of mine currently. Left obviously is the old flower and the right is a flower yet to open.
