Are you watering the calathea with distilled or filtered or rain water? They are sensitive to lime in tap water, and eventually if watered with tap, the lime and minerals will build up around the roots, leading to the plant roots so caked with these minerals that they can’t absorb water, so they will slowly decline. Also, how dry does the soil get between waterings? Also, have you inspected it for spider mites, and /or are there any fungus gnats around? And have you checked the roots for rot? Its hard to say whats the cause without knowing a bit more. But right off the bat, I will say that the size of your pot/soil looks a bit too large for the size of the plant, which could cause it to hold onto water for too long since not enough leaves to use it all fast enough.

It could be yellowing for so many reasons so many things take into account, conditions, lighting, and watering. It could be pests, rot from over watering or rot from under watering. And yes the type of water may come into play too depending how your tap water is treated in your area. I use tap water for all my plants including Calathea and Anthuriums they are all fine. I would recommend first that you check the leaves for pest just to rule that out. Hold your plant up and use a light to move around make sure there is no webbing for spider mites or other pest on your plants. Then take a look at the roots make sure they look good, white, firm and fuzzy for this type of plant. If they are dark and falling apart at the touch that’s over watering rot. If the roots are dry looking almost more like sticks it’s dry root from under watering. Those are the most common reasons for yellowing leaves. I hope that helps and that it perks up too 💚
