I think I know the issue here but would love extra insight! I got this orchid one month ago, and I bought the right soil and a miracle gro orchid food mist spray to supplement watering once a week. The first time i sprayed it, I read the instructions wrong and accidentally sprayed all the orchid petals, when it actually said to NOT do this. Obviously the left side has totally wilted and died, and the stem is now yellow. Is it the result of my accidental spraying? I water about once a week and leave it to completely dry out, and it gets partial sunlight in this window. And do you recommend I remove the left stem entirely or cut it back? This is my first orchid. Thank you!!

It’s normal for it to lose its flowers and stem. You can cut it back as close to the base as you’d like to. I usually cut as much of mine off as I can. It will eventually grow a new one if it has the light it needs.

I will add, it’s hard to tell in the picture, but it looks like it’s yellowing all the way down. On a green stem that loses its flowers you can cut it back to just above the highest closed bud area instead of cutting it all the way off completely.

Yes, there are two stems and the right one is still green with flowers but the left one is very yellowed and all the flowers dried up last week, I think because of the spray. For the left stem, do you think I should cut it totally out? I’ll wait on the right stem since that one seems healthier.

Yea I’d cut that left one down to the base. That way the plant can put all its energy into the flowering one. It could be from the spray but hey lesson learned. Orchids are so rewarding, they can keep their blooms for months!
