Bought this monstera in the autumn. It has a new leaf that has taken months to open but as it’s opening it’s black. Does anyone know what’s wrong with my poor plant?

I have had leaves for this on occasion. For whatever reason they don’t survive. The fact that it took months to open might have contributed as well. I’m not sure if there is another problem going on or not, but the leaf dying could be nothing to worry about!
1 gillaWere you misting the leaf before it opened? I find this happens on my monsteras and philos if I get too heavy handed misting new leaves
1 gillaIt was probably too dry from low humidity. Typically you can mist the unfurled leaf each day until it starts to open if the leaf has not opened in a couple of weeks.

The humidity is probably too low. I try to mist new leaves to help them unfurl happily.

have you fertilized the plant at all? monstera require lots of nutrients as they are fast growers and heavy feeders. i fertilize mine 1/4 strength or less every watering. lack of fertilizer can cause the new leaves to come out deathly pale and/or brown and crispy in places
