Is anyone else feeling really really defeated when it comes to plants? I seem to have nothing but a black thumb lately.

Iāve been there! Years ago I could kill a succulent in 10 days. š It looks like you have a pathos, Christmas cactus and aloe plants among others. From your plants list the only one seeming to struggle is the cactus. I canāt give recommendations on that plant but others here certainly can. Pick a few other āeasyā plants (Zz, snake plant, peace lily) and see if you have some better luck with them. Sometimes we can get over ambitious and bring home something that isnāt suited to our home or our personal schedules are too busy for the amount of maintenance and care they need. Donāt give upā¦and definitely post specific questions if a plant isnāt thriving!
8 gillningarHeather good for you for asking for support!! I am where you are too. This seems to be a knowledgeable and encouraging community.
2 gillningarI killed my two favorite plants in the same month a few years ago. That was a real low and I struggled to take care of the plants I still had for a while. Eventually I realized that if I wanted to succeed, I was gonna have to do some research. Proper pot size, the right soil, good plant lights, and fertilizing on a schedule. Once I revamped their setup so it was tailored to them, my remaining plants were thriving instead of struggling to survive. I think I had 4 then? I have 23 now and I've only lost 4 in the last few years (and two were pineapple props that I honestly didn't think would root anyway lol)

Thank you guys for your support. I think Iām just going to take a minor break and focus on the ones I have
4 gillningarItās normal! Like everyone else has said, we all lose plants from time to time. Sometimes itās just the plant itself and other times itās the conditions that we have. Not all plants will thrive in our homes. Because we canāt make our home into all of the amazingly different and diverse ecosystems that this world has to offer lol, although Iād love to have a rainforest room and a desert patio and a tundra kitchen and a mountain region living room, *sigh* one can dream. But the trick is to figure out what loves to grow in your little environment you have and stick with those, and soon youāll start to fall in love with those plants. Also, if you really want, you can get those ikea cabinets and create a greenhouse to make a more humid environment. You got this, donāt give up, all of our passions ebb and flow and it doesnāt mean we donāt like it anymore or weāre not good at it, just means that we need to take a step back and give ourselves some space to breathe and look at the big picture of things. Focus on the positive and give yourself a pat on the back for getting this far!

Thank you for the encouragement!

1 gillaIām gonna retweet everyone elseās comments! You got this!!
2 gillningarI'm right with ya. I'm not that great with plants either. Even when I felt defeated, I couldn't help but to try again. Try keeping note of what you did before to make changes. Friends say that's best to try cactus or succulent plants first as they are easy. I have 7 different ones that are doing great!
2 gillningarI feel ya! And whatās sad is I have even managed to loose āeasyā plants for not rhyme or reason. It gets very discouraging but I keep trying. I will probably give myself some distance with caletheas and alocasias as I donāt seem to have the right environment for them but donāt give up! Success comes with failure. š

Plant love and support here. I had a lot of beginnerās luck and now have had some issues lately, I get the feeling for sure. Take a beat if you want and maybe find one new baby in a bit, I bet itāll all even out. Best of luck to you!
2 gillningarI totally get it. Iāve killed so many plants and gave up for a long time. My mom is great with plants, seemingly with no effort, and I told myself the story that I would never get it. But I decided to try again. Like others have mentioned, I do research. I stopped trying to force plants into a spot and started figuring out what they need. I added grow lights. I adjusted when plants werenāt doing well. The Planta app has helped a lot. Even though it wants me to overwater, it gets my eyes on each plant regularly. And this community is gold! Despite all that, Iāve still lost some plants. So Iām also learning to be kind to myself, and I encourage you to be kind to you, too. Sending positives!
