Monstera Albo order update. So I ordered a couple cheap rooted Half Moon Albo cuttings from the Philippines on Etsy and they have shipped today. Curious to see how long itāll take, if theyāll even arrive alive etc. If anyone has any info on paying customs on international orders and how that process goes that would be appreciated.
Oh interesting. I have āwindow shoppedā on some importer websites and been tempted. But Iāve been to hesitant to try importing. Curious to hear how it goes! Hopefully very well āŗļø My only experience that is similar was buying from an Ecuagenera pop-up vendor at an orchid show. They were selling aroids that had just come with them from Ecuador. I got an anthurium luxurians that adjusted with no problem surprisingly. But the philodendron bicolor I got has been a struggle bus since March š„² It literally JUST started rooting seemingly out of nowhere a couple weeks ago and is now sending out its first new leaf! š¤© I think p. bicolor is uncommon in the US because theyāre not as hardy as most of the other philodendrons we know and love here. If I had to guess, Iād say the reason itās finally growing for me is because this past month has been like the rain forest š¤£ Finally 80+ Fahrenheit and 80%+ humidity for my tropical baby lol But donāt let that worry you. Monstera are very commonly imported and suited as houseplants. All that was to say that you may have to do some TLC while it adjusts. Possibly some urgent care upon arrival. But try not to panic (easier said than done). A lot of times the plant eventually finds a way āŗļø
1 gilla Iāll definitely post an update once they arrive! I just hope they arrive alive lol Thatās cool you were able to get some imports at a pop up, and glad they both are thriving! Albos are just so expensive here in the US so thought Iād take a shot and see how this goes (two rooted cuttings for $30). The posting showed a very healthy root system (photo below) but Iām ready with a propagation set up if needed. Will definitely be disinfected/quarantined and all that once they get here.
Ooh nice!! Sounds like a good plan for arrival too. I got my albo from a seller on Etsy late last year. I forget exactly, but I wanna say I paid about $70 for a hardly rooted cutting, give or take. Plus some shipping. I was actually surprisingly lucky though because the seller had accidentally sold that cutting I had chosen to someone else in-person and forgotten to update their page. So they upgraded me to a very well rooted cutting that was already pushing out a new leaf! š± They even sent pictures beforehand in case I didnāt like the replacement option. As if Iād say no to a better plant for the same price š Iāve heard stories of people nursing a bare node cutting for a year before getting any significant growth. I advocate for spending more for roots. I know itās not in a lot of peopleās budgets, but who wants to anxiously watch a stick for a year? š„² So yeah, itāll be a win win for you at that price, assuming they come with those roots š¤ Iām ROOTING for you š badum tss š„
