I have this plant that I got a while back & for some reason, the pot had molded & molded my windowsill. The mold count is already high in this apartment as it is so I figured maybe that’s what caused it. My question is, do I need to throw this pot away? If not, how do I get this stuff to completely go away. I always clean the outside of it when I refill the water but it ALWAYS comes back. I believe it’s terracotta too, I thought terracotta was supposed to be breathable?? The plant itself though is growing fine though!

That’s mineral buildup, efflorescence. Comes out of the pores of the pot, harmless to the plant. You can scrub it

Terracotta holds moisture. Fungus loves moisture. Wash off with warm soapy water. Treat with a fungicide, if needed.

It looks like the terracotta pot is an outer pot and a nursery pot inside. I would do a water vinegar soak for the outer pot. I do it with my terracotta pots to remove mineral deposits. Let it totally dry, maybe a couple days. Should kill any fungus and get rid of any mineral deposits.

Terracotta is porous so if it’s an outer pot, it should only remain moist for a short time after you water. Are you pouring out the excess water that has drained out?

This is super strong, just stained my black dress on accident with the splashback while using it. Definitely be careful with that. Works really well. I also wanna add obviously this aint abt the pot bc i worry this can definitely kill plants. It helps keep mold under control tho.
