My first fern, Bird’s Nest Fern, so not sure what to expect. I checked the leaves and saw no sign of mites or anything. I get home and can see the middle good… surely this isn’t normal? 😞

Looks fine to me! Birds nest ferns are actually named after how the fiddleheads look like eggs in the middle of the fern; it’s a trait of the plant that you can see the middle.

좋아요 1개The more I look at it, I’m really worried about spider mites or mealy bugs on the fiddleheads. I’ve cleaned and sprayed 🤞 Hopefully you’re right and I’m just paranoid!
좋아요 1개Those strings don’t look like spider mites to me. Cleaning new plants anyway is good thinking though!
좋아요 1개Whew! I just tossed a Calathea because I couldn’t get a handle on the spider mites on it. I’m overly paranoid now, lol
0개 좋아요Yeah, pests are a pain. I’ve got a mealy bug problem right now and I’ve taken to cleaning the infected plants monthly and spraying neem oil everywhere. If it was warmer I’d repot them all!
좋아요 1개Not sure why anyone thought this was a relaxing hobby 😂
2개 좋아요I haven't had this on ferns, but I have on some hanging plants. It may be different but that looks pretty normal to me. No need to worry!

0개 좋아요Mostly this looks completely normal and beautiful. There were a couple little spots on the leaves that look like possibly the start of a pest, perhaps thrips. It's hard to tell they still could be part of the normal plant growth. I'm always suspicious of a little whitish spot. As a precaution I would spray it with horticultural oil or neem just to be on the safe side since you just brought it from the greenhouse.
좋아요 1개I did! Cleaned and neem oil. Thank you!
0개 좋아요It's not spider mites so you can take that off your worry list.
