Hi, my plant has this web like substance on it and I’m not sure what it is. If anyone knows or has an idea please let me know.

Hi Morgan! These are spider mites— I recommend taking the plant and spraying it (aggressively lol) with a garden hose, if you can. Otherwise, a good rinse in the shower. Then treat with MiteX or the Bonide BonNeem product according to their instructions!

I also want to add that my parlor palms get mites more than any of my other plants— I just treated them 3 weeks in a row with the 2 products I mentioned above and it seems to have finally taken care of it 😮‍💨

Thank you! Also what if I have another plant in the house, will it spread to that one?

It absolutely can— I proactively use neem on all of my surrounding plants any time I find pests on one!

Also can spider mites also attract spiders?

Some spiders will eat spider mites, but it’s unlikely that the sheer presence of spider mites would attract spiders that weren’t already planning to visit haha. They’re only called that because they’re also arachnids! 🤗

Spider mites. It’s going to be a battle. I use Azamax for a soil drench and insecticidal soap to spray leaves. It’ll probably take a couple weeks of consistent care. Palms are really prone to spider mites… so preventive care would help once you do get rid of them. Good luck and Godspeed. 🩷

i agree it looks like you have spider mites. i would recommend hosing the plant off thoroughly to remove most of the bugs, then spray the plant daily or every other day (and any nearby) with a castile soap solution— i use a few drops of soap per cup of water. repeat until there are no more signs of pests. spider mites’ life cycle fits in a two-four week time frame, so keep treating at least so long. i wouldn’t recommend a pesticide unless the infestation is unresponsive to mechanical means (like showering the plant, a castile soap bath or spray, and/or a dusting of diatomaceous earth). many pesticides are damaging to the environment and our health.

I second Laura’s very sound advice and will add that spider mites lay eggs under the surface of the leaves so they require multiple treatments. You’ll just need to keep treating on a regular basis until you stop seeing them 👍🏻
