Hello! This beautiful Japanese maple tree was planted by my grandfather it’s very special to me. I’m worried about a diseased looking branch that I noticed…. What should I do? Any feedback or advice to take good care of this tree would be very appreciated!! 😊

    The disease appears to be some type of boring insect, but that dark green spot at the bottom of the branch is also concerning (or it might be a moss; if you get a close up of that i can ID it better.) That dead branch can definitely be cut off, but I'd suggest having an arborist (actual arborist, not just tree cutting service) take a look at it. They'd be able to identify the pest and cut in the best place for you

      Thank you so much! 😄 Tomorrow I will send you a zoomed in and clearer photo of the green moss looking area on the tree. I will look into local arborists around me too, that would be very interesting!

      That is definitely just mosses and lichens, so totally harmless and a sign that you have good air quality. That patch also has some nice variety in colors 👌
