I was afraid of that 😭 I’ve been looking over this thing with a magnifying glass every other day for weeks though and haven’t seen a thing

If that is edema, that is a sign your water has a really high mineral or fluoride content. If that is the case, you gotta start buying distilled water 😩 If it's not that then yeah probably bugs. Def not fungal though so at least you don't gotta worry abt that 😭

I use filtered water that sits out overnight so I don’t think it’s minerals, I keep thinking pests but I’ve been obsessively checking this plant with a magnifying glass for a couple of weeks now and haven’t seen anything 😭

Plants with water heavy leaves like that can present stress with bug damage looking pitting/scarring. So if you are certain there are no pests, there genuinely might not be. The only other thing I can think of is maybe she's too moist for too long and has been having a lot of respiration. Good luck figuring out the cause my friend 😭

Thank you so much for commenting, I’ll be on the lookout for more marks like this especially after watering. Appreciate the input!

You know what, this did arrive on really heavy wet soil (ordered online from Etsy) and I did eventually change out the soil to something chunky and airy but now I wonder if that might have done it. I haven’t been looking at leaves too closely until recently because I did have a minor spider mite outbreak, but not on this plant. And this damage was already here before that. I’m really glad Planta asks for regular updates on our plants because going back and looking at my photos has given me a better idea of when this damage might have occurred. Anyway I’m just blathering at this point 😆 thanks so much for your comment!

If you wipe down the leaves with a mix of water, alcohol, and a bit of dish soap, it'll give you a clean slate to see if the white stuff is from current conditions or not 😳

I think you can safely rule out pests if you’ve been consistently, inspecting them for weeks with a magnifying glass and have not seen any. I understand your fear, though. I get paranoid with my plants and inspect like that too. I have yet to have a pest infestation. Good job!

That’s awesome that you haven’t had any problems with pests yet! I was in that camp for a few years and then I finally had my first spider mite outbreak a few weeks ago, which is why I was worried this was pest damage and why I’ve been meticulously combing over these plants every day like I’m in a spy novel 😩 I know it’s not spider mites at this point because I haven’t seen any webbing and I know what spider mites look like and can see them without the magnifying glass. That’s why I was thinking maybe flat mites since I’ve heard those are harder to see. Anyway, getting your first outbreak is really scary! I hate the idea of plants getting munched on. And pest bugs are gross 🤮 keep up whatever you’re doing with your plants and thank you for commenting!

You are lucky for that. The season change has brought in these evil gnat-like things that keep munching on my plants 😭 I am just now finally getting under control but they love my bio active fertilizer 😭

Just to be clear my friends, I did not say I’ve never had a pest. I just am so paranoid and meticulous with my inspections that I am able to catch them before it is an infestation. I have systemic granules that I use in my soil, I use blue sticky Paper in my compacted plant corners as an early detection for thrips, and I use mosquito bits to prevent fungus larva, and I have perfectly plantistas awesome spray that I use for everything. And I always repot new plants that I buy. No matter how good the soil is, I don’t care to risk bringing in bugs, I clean the soil off as best I can and put it in my own chunky soil mix with the systemic granules.

This is great, I hope you don’t mind if I steal your prevention plan 😉
