I put my plant outside for a month (in the shade) and it looks like something’s wrong. It’s had no progress on these two leaves coming out and I’m worried I fried it….does anyone know how I can help? Also some of the super damaged leaves are from when I rescued it but I feel like it got worse when it was outside.

It doesn’t look fried to me, just looks like it got whipped around in the wind. I would cut off the most damaged leaves, since they’re not able to photosynthesize as much when damaged, but the plant is using a lot of energy to keep those leaves going. This will allow the plant to put that energy toward new leaves.

Are you saying cut the whole leaf off? Will it grow a new one in its place?

Yup! Trim as close to the base of the stem as possible. It’ll grow a new one but it’ll take a while. You can look up YouTube videos of people trimming Birds of Paradise leaves if you want to see how it looks :)

Any of the wilted bottom leaves can be trimmed off, but leave the torn top leaves. As long as they are still green, they can photosynthesize.
