I use cool mist in the summer and warm mist in the winter. I'm not sure the dynamics of it all but my plants are doing good that way.

I use a cool mist humidifier. I didn't like the risks associated with warm mist (particularly the temperature control and risk of burns)

I would default to cool most unless I have independent temperature readings to verify the warm mist temperatures around the plants are safe. You can add a standalone plant thermometer/hygrometer to get several parameters including humidity levels. The photo is a sample of one device m. I have never used this brand. There are many on the market. 🪴🍀

In nature, fog would roll in in the early morning, so most plants that like misting would expect it to be cool
