What’s everyone’s go-to preventative treatment when bringing a new plant home? Obviously quarantine, and check out the leaves well - but do you sprays their leaves and what with? Bonus for any products found in Canada!

I isolate them and immediately check the leaves and stems for midlew or pest and to be counteractive whether I see them or not I mist the plant and soil with a neem oil/dish detergent and water mixture but only at night so the leaves don’t get sunburn or burned in general from whatever your light source is due to the neem pil
2 likesI douse all sides of the leaf with my shower head. I use jacks dead bug spray but I don’t think you can get it in Canada. Diluted Neem oil, castille soap, or insecticidal soap do well! I’ve seen something called Doktor doom on Reddit that I think is sold in Canada
1 likeI usually isolate them, but sometimes I forget. I’ve never treated them. Never thought of that before. I’m such a bad mom.

You are a good human. I just brought home four plants yesterday and immediately stuck them in with the rest. 🫣 I guess I’ve been lucky
1 likeI guess we’ve all had our share of luck. I’ve only had one bad gnat outbreak. Knock on wood.
0 likesI have a pretty psycho regime.. but i have over 200 plants. And gods forbid i got some crazy infestation 😆 🤣. I unpack the plants and put them in the sink (or tub for larger). Then everyone gets checked over, and then sprayed down with an insecticide. If i notice anything off, i will clip off leaves. I also check what its potted in, if its got a ton of cocochips, i will repot, so theres no salt poisoning die offs🤬. If i notice any fungus gnats at all i will repot as well. After they sit with the insecticide for 30-60 mins i will spray it off. Then i water with Mycorrhizal, fertilizer, silica dilution(like 1/6). And they sit in the sink/tub overnight, then i inspect again. And they go into QT. Which has a lower light start than my usual. I wrap up all the packing materials and/or soil and immediately take it out to bin as soon as I'm done unpacking/repotting. After they come out of QT they get predatory mites and nematodes

WOW. If I come back as a plant I want to live in YOUR greenhouse
4 likesWow! Great info. 200 plants!
1 likeI quarantine for about 2 weeks, and when I first get them I spare leaves with DIY spray (water, castille soap and neem oil) I also treat the soil with need oil and diotiecius(?) sand. Pest treatment continues for about 2 months just in case
