I’ve had this African violet for over a year now, and it was doing really well until about a month ago! The flowers started not blooming fully when they emerged and more recently it’s had none at all. I thought it might need a repotting, and when I pulled it out, I found its roots were really shallow (although otherwise looked okay) and noticed the bottom of the pot’s soil was still damp even with drainage so a few days ago I moved it back into a much smaller pot with new African violet potting soil in case it had been gradually getting root rot or was overwatered. I haven’t watered it since before that repotting. This morning I noticed some of the leaves had turned brown and started feeling mushy/droopy overnight so I cut about 4 damaged ones off, but only 8 hours later or so I’ve noticed more leaves turning partially brown (see photo). Any advice on what could be going wrong?? Does it just need time to adjust or should I keep trimming leaves/check again for root rot? Is it getting sunburnt or maybe affected by the draft of being by an open window? It recently started cooling down at night and I noticed the leaves that keep turning brown are the ones closest to the window…but the plant has also always been on the same table in the same place. I don’t want to cause the plant more stress, but I’m also worried about not doing anything if there’s a deeper issue!

These definitely wouldn't like the cold, so protect it from harsh cold nights. The root and leaf situation does sound like root rot. You can treat the soil with hydrogen peroxide to help it recover (and retreat every 2-3 days if needed.) Avoid getting any water on the leaves; their fuzzy hair can trap moisture and cause rot. When watering, make sure it drains properly. Also take a leaf cutting and propagate it; the rot might spread upwards and sometimes it's easier to restart than to heal the rot (you can even cut the center stem to start with the entire top if you want). If all goes well, you get two plants. If you get unlucky with the rot, you'll be glad you took a cutting.

Thank you! I’ve taken a leaf cutting already and will try the hydrogen peroxide treatment to see if that helps 🤞🏻

I’ve read when you repot to put your entire plant in a bag for days to create a humid environment. I did and it helped my plant
