Do some googling or try You Tube. I’ve never had a Venus fly trap but I know they can be very difficult and I believe they do not like to be potted in soil. They get all their nutrients from the bugs they eat … so their substrate has to be void of vitamins or minerals or something …. Good luck!!

Cut off all the black. Lots of light. They like to be moist but not drenched. Feed once a month. No fertilizer. Only distilled water

I’ve been told that Venus fly traps go dormant as well. If it’s not dormancy it’s prob an old trap. Mine I’ve experienced that with every two new leaves/traps it makes it loses one. Mine is doing amazing other than that. Also don’t feed it live food. It stresses them out. Use a sort of “fertilizer”. There are certain kinds you can buy that co inside the traps mouth. Works better than live food since live bugs can stress the plant out.

Also what soil is it planted in? It doesn’t look like the correct soil but i could be wrong.

I bought a fly trap that looks similar to this one. I thought the soil was incredibly dense and holds on to too much moisture. What kind of soil should the plant be in?

It needs a carnivorous plant mixture! Usually peat moss and perlite or something similar
