Hiya everyone, I wondered if anyone can help me out with my banana plant. It has these light maple brown markings at the edges of some of its leaves and a couple of the leaves at the bottom are drooping. I’m really not sure what’s wrong with my Junior. Do you think it’s a fungal issue? It gets lots of light and I wait for the soil to dry out but not completely before watering (of course using the planta app) and snooze if still wet. Any help or advice you can give will be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you 😔

Some banana and banana-like plants naturally have prominent red or maroon patterns on their leaves, which can look similar to maple leaves. Could be normal just keep a close eye and always let the plants dry out completely it’s not going to hurt it. And planta is not good for watering it will ruin your plants if you listen to it too much. Everything else planta has is a good feature.

I have had the plant for a few months now and those don’t look like it’s normal patterns as it suddenly appeared and it’s not on all of the leaves. But thanks for the advice and help - appreciate it

There are several indications it’s a watering issue. The brown areas are next to yellow areas especially at the leaf tips. Several leaves are affected including the new growth. The area of highest concern is the center at the base leaf stems that look like black mold or rot. This could be fungal which can begin with both overwatering and poor air circulation. Banana plants can get a lot of fungal issues when water is trapped between the leaf stems. Try watering the soil only and not the leaf stems that could trap water around the center. Provide good air circulation. A commercial fungicide can help. 🪴🍀

Ah! This makes sense. I thought that could have been the issue but I wasn’t 100% sure. This is extremely helpful. Thank you so much. I appreciate you taking the time to help and give me advice

No problem. You should check the roots for root rot in case there are more than one issue. Root rot can quickly destroy a banana plant from the center of the plant because it’s so fleshy. 🪴🍀
