THRIPSSSS Hi! Everyone! I am currently battling thrips on my Monsteras. 😩 Question is, should I cut off the damaged leaves? It hurts to remove them as they’re the newest and biggest leaves I have so far, but will do if must. I’ve already rinsed them, used insecticidal soap, and probably will apply a mixture of alcohol and water, and the neem oil later. Thank you! 🙏🏽
You don’t need to as long as there is no longer any pests , most people remove them for aesthetics
좋아요 1개Okay, thanks! There’s still some as I only discovered them 3days ago. They’re already separated in a different room, and will try to do the treatment once a week till needed. They’re a pain in the bum. 😖

Oof, I’m in the trenches battling thrips too. The worst part is that they lay eggs in the leaves and pupate in the soil, so you really have to treat both. I’m using systemic granules to target the larvae, along with Captain Jack’s Dead Bug Brew on the leaves (every other day during week 1, then once the following week). After that, I’m rotating horticultural oil and insecticidal soap for the next four weeks to help prevent resistance. Even after a full 6-week treatment and quarantine, it’s important to stay vigilant since thrips can continue emerging for weeks afterward depending on environmental conditions. I haven’t had to remove any healthy-looking leaves yet (they’ve mainly gone after my spider plants), but I did prune the ones that were too far gone. Wishing you the best of luck—they’re a marathon, not a sprint, but hopefully we’ll both come out on the other side soon! 💚
3개 좋아요Sadly, we don’t have Captain Jack’s here in Australia. I can purchase the granules to fight the larvae, and maybe just use the soap on the foliage. Hopefully would work. I hate fighting gnats, but thrips are even worse. 😖 thank you for the tips! We got this!
