Recently got this monstera, and it’s new growth is starting to go brown, it’s on multiple of the new leaves. I water every time the soil is dry about an inch or two on top. It is in a plastic pot with drainage inside a larger pot currently, and when watering there is no pool of water at the bottom, and never has been so I don’t think it’s due to over watering. What should I do!
It likely needs more humidity. The leaves are getting stuck in the sheath and getting damaged. If you are able to amp up the humidity with a humidifier or a pebble tray that should help. Sometimes when a new leaf is emerging i will mist just the sheath for a couple days to help it soften and let go.

I agree. I had leaves coming in damaged and when I started misting them multiple times a week they came in healthy.

while i agree this looks like mechanical damage, it could also be too much humidity. when there's too much ambient moisture, water gets trapped within the unfurling leaf and harbors bacteria. watch for the next new leaf and see if it's breaking the sheath instead of unfurling smoothly. if it's going smoothly and it's still coming out brown, the air is too humid.
좋아요 1개 Good note. Ill keep that in mind too. I am not a mister in general but i do have several alocasias and monsteras to watch for. I notice my birken gets stuck sometimes as well.
