I just noticed this white, like fuzz on top of the soil at the base of my fiddle leaf fig. I assume it’s some kind of mold or a fungus? The plant looks perfectly normal and healthy. But this just showed up out of the blue. Anybody know what it is and how to treat it? I’d love to hear from you. Thanks ahead of time.

It’s fungus. It grows when the soil stays too wet too long from overwatering. A fungicidal spray can clear it. Watering only after the soil dries out is the way to help prevent it from appearing. Ensure the plant has good air circulation to help dry the soil. The dark spots on the newer leaves can occur from overwatering (edema), fungal infection, bacterial infection (root rot), or pests like mites. Check with a magnifying glass for spider mites, thrips or other insects especially under the leaves. It’s probably overwatering if no pests are found that is causing the spotty new leaves. Overwatering can cause edema, excess water causing bubbles in the leaves that burst leaving spots. Overwatering causes root rot and fungal growth. Both show up as dark spots on the leaves. Some of the spots might go away as the newer leaves grow and watering is properly regulated. 🍀🪴

scoop the top layer of that out and sprinkle cinnamon in there. as long as you wait until it’s dry to water again, you should be okay!

Cinnamon!!! I knew there was some spice that you could put on the dirt that would help get rid of mold, I just couldn’t remember what it was. So thank you!😊
