Could be that it’s moist for too long for too often, is that your experience?

Yes, the soil is not right for the plant and it holds too much moisture, have to change the soil for them now🫠

The soil in your friend’s plant appears to have a white or crusty layer, which could be due to a few possible reasons: 1. Mineral/Salt Buildup • If tap water is being used for watering, salts and minerals can accumulate on the soil surface over time. This is especially common in succulents and snake plants (Sansevieria, pictured here). • Solution: Try flushing the soil with distilled or rainwater to remove excess salts, or repot the plant in fresh soil. 2. Fungal Growth or Mold • A white, powdery or fluffy layer on the soil could indicate mold or fungal growth, often caused by overwatering and poor drainage. • Solution: Allow the soil to dry out between waterings, improve airflow around the plant, and consider using a fungicide to treat the mold. 3. Soil Compaction & Poor Drainage • If the soil is compacted and not draining well, it can lead to an unhealthy environment for the plant’s roots, making it prone to issues like salt buildup or mold. • Solution: If the soil seems dense or clumped, consider repotting the plant with a well-draining potting mix suitable for snake plants, such as a cactus or succulent mix. 4. Hard Water Deposits • If you notice hard, chalky deposits, they could be caused by the minerals in hard water. This can affect the soil’s pH and overall health of the plant. • Solution: Use distilled, filtered, or rainwater to avoid further buildup, and gently scrape off the top layer of soil and replace it with fresh, clean soil. In summary, addressing watering practices, improving soil drainage, and ensuring better airflow around the plant should help resolve this issue. If repotting, use a fresh, well-draining soil mix and a pot with adequate drainage holes.
