I think this is starting to show signs of root rot. Can it be saved? What do I do to it?

Cut off the soft, mushy smelly roots. Rinse the roots with water to clean the soil. Rinse the roots with hydrogen peroxide to disinfect. Disinfect hands and tools to avoid spreading bacteria. Use fresh soil and a 4” wide or smaller pot with good drainage. Water only when the soil is completely dry, the plant will be slightly limp. Don’t follow a strict watering schedule to avoid future root rot. Always verify it needs water before watering. Place in bright indirect light and fertilize regularly. 🪴🍀

Thank you so much! Is it okay if I post of picture after I rinse it off to see where to cut?

It looks fine. Root rot is typically dark and mushy. It stinks like a swamp too. Only cut if you find those conditions on the root.

Looks fine to me. Its probably the mushy soil thats scaring you, which is fair because thats the leading cause of rot. If the soil is still wet, press the “snooze” button when the app tells you to water it. The top of the soil should be completely dry before you water.

That’s what happened for sure. I rescued it from my dad and put it in there after some tlc but the soil still feels really wet and I noticed the stem getting darker so I checked the roots but I’m a new plant mom so I wasn’t sure what I was working with completely lol
