Hey guys! I’ve grown this plant for the last 2 years from a little sprout, but it’s never truly seemed happy. I repotted to this one about 4 months ago, and I water it regularly. Partial sun in a brighter room, but still she looks really pale and has at least 3 dead leaves a week that get real crispy. Any suggestions? Thx!

How often do you water it? And does it have drainage? I have one also and that type of thing seems to happen when it has too much water or it’s getting root bound.

I water every 1.5 weeks or so - whenever the alerts tell me to. There’s good drainage, and this pot is pretty new. The growth is almost gangly and the vines aren’t thick or strong

You can always make more by stem propagating

Interestingly enough, the same thing started happening to the one I propagated 😭

The pot is too big for those few stems. This could lead to root rot when the plant can’t use all the water in the soil. Plus, they like bright light and need it to maintain the dark colors.

These plants do not have a very long life span. I think my most thriving ones only lasted 2 years.

This is my baby in October. Still the same. It’s just on the ground now. I’ve had it going on 3 years. I have 2 Purple Heart plants going on 5 years they are bigger than this one.

It’s a myth that Tradescantias only live a few years. My Purple Heart has been living in 3 pots outside in full 100°F summer sun and winter freeze (Zone 9) for almost 15 years. See pic. I have one in a 6 inch pot almost 10 years.

Your plant looks pale like it lacks sufficient light and getting too much water as stated above. Following the Planta app to water without verifying the plant actually needs water can kill the plant. Be sure to use a bamboo skewer to verify the soil is completely dry before watering. 🍀🪴

    Definitely not enough light.
