Hey guys I need help, my alocasia is not growing, when I bought it it was fine but 2 days later I discovered the new plant leaf that was growing it was very soggy and it quickly died. I removed it and kept taking care of it but now one of the full grown leafs had also gotten soggy and it is not growing at all. So far some sturdy but I’m scared it’s just gonna get worse as the days go by. So far I’ve had her over a month and still alive but I want it to keep growing and get better. Any tips?

Unlike what others say, when I get a new plant, I re-pot it, check roots, usually spray roots with hydrogen peroxide, remove the plug (if it has one) and put in my own chunky soil mix. I also use pest prevention. I just feel better starting fresh and with what I’m comfortable with. Haven’t lost one yet.

A lot of these Alocasias lose a leaf when growing a new one. Not sure why. Frustrating.

I read once it’s because the bulb in the soil isn’t big/strong enough to support more. Eventually the bulb grows too and can support more leaves

Alocasias like loose soil that dries out completely between waterings and an occasional spray 😊 they thrive w a bit of neglect so keep that in mind

Update, the little one died. All the leafs fell and it had lots of trot, trying to save the bulb but I’m not too optimistic about it. 😭😭
