Hey everyone! I have a new brown spot on my monstera that I’ve been watching for a week. I think it might be fertilizer burn because it initially popped up post applying fertilizer directly to it because I was lazy and it wasn’t watering day. I used Miracle Gro plant food which according to the package states it’s already diluted and ready to use, but I do typically apply 1 pump to a bowl of water and bottom water my plants. I flushed the soil Thursday morning and it stayed the same size for about 5 days, but just got taller last night. Any thoughts on what to do next?

Assuming no water or pest issues, then, this is likely brown spots that is common to variegated monstera plants. The white areas are affected the most. A silica (silicon dioxide) plant supplement is typically used to strengthen the plant’s cell walls and root system to help prevent this condition. There are a lot of online resources including videos on this which has more information. Also, checkout using “naturally available” silica from diatomaceous earth or raw rice hulls worked into the soil. 🪴🍀

Thank you so much! I think someone recommended silica when I first got my plant but I forgot to get some. Thank you for your advice!
