I’ve had my Hoya Kerrii for a year or so and water only when dry and recently she developed a black spot that was spreading. I checked the roots and there were no visible signs of rot but I transferred it to a chunky mix and a terracotta pot. Since then she has another black spot and the starter leaf fully yellowed. What do I do? There’s no signs of pests that I can visibly see.

It hasn’t has new growth since the end of summer (late august), it’s not on every leaf but two leaves within a month and then the starter leaf fully yellowed this week.

What if more leaves slowly get the black spots as well?

I'd jus give it time and if other leaves get it then give it more attention again

Yeahhh, I definitely wouldn’t leave it be. Take the plant, take her out of the pot and soil, throw out all the soil and clean/sterilize the pot with soap and water and vinegar. Then, wash off the roots fairly well and repot her into some chunky soil mix in a clean pot. Now, you need to get some neem oil or horticultural soap, and spray that down on the leaves every week, being sure to get the nooks and crannies. Also, I’ve heard that watering in beneficial nematodes are awesome for getting the baby thrips down at the roots and stem. If you are okay going the non organic route, others swear by houseplant systemic granules that you mix into the soil (this gets soaked up by the plant via its roots and basically poisons the thrips that are trying to eat the plant), if you use that be sure to follow all proper eye, respiratory and skin safety guidelines.

I think they’re on my thanksgiving cactus as well, i’m more concerned about that one. I’ve also read higher humidity helps kill thrips. I’m going to get systemic granules tomorrow and insecticidal soap! Thank you!!
