Hello Planta’s!!! I’m just looking for some guidance, I applied some “leaf cleaner” of which I found the ingredients from one of my favorite plant moms on Instagram.. I did eye the measurements, so they weren’t exactly what she said but pretty close to it. I sprayed this onto my elephant ear which was under the grow lamp, can someone please tell me where I’m going wrong? My biggest leaf now looks like it’s burning on parts of it ): it’s been days and the leaf is definitely dying. Kinda sad cause it was the largest I ever got. Was 18 inches long!!! 😭 My poor little blossom )):, I definitely drenched all of the leaves with the cleaner. Out of them, it only burned my largest leaf which I find really weird. And the bloom like died off before it was supposed to. Please also keep in mind, I used the same leaf spray on my Thai Con Monstera as well as my White Princess Philodendron. No damage done there.

What was in the spray? I’m also wondering if maybe this plant was perhaps under a more intense light or at least closer to it, and that’s why it was damaged and the others weren’t?

The cleaning spray was 1 part insecticidal soap, 4 parts water, 2 drops Castile soap, 2 tablespoons of Neem Oil (preferably cold pressed, but I don’t have that). The light was fairly close when I applied it, but also I’ve realized that the potting soil I have this large one in has randomly been growing mold.. I’m not sure if it’s good or bad mold, do you have any recommendations for what to do. Should I repot with a chunkier fast drying mix.?

Yes I believe that is what she called it!!! I’m starting to think it was due to the grow light being way too close after applying it. I will certainly keep this in mind. Thank you very much Alesha!!! 🤗

When using neem oil the plant must be moved out of sun or grow lights, otherwise it will burn. The leaf won’t fix itself, so you could cut it off or just leave it.

Thank you very much Sara for the help!!! I honestly had no idea… Usually when I would go with the Neem route I would lightly mist the leaves and then pour some onto the soil, honestly not even sure if I’m supposed to do that but it’s never done me any harm!!!

I have seen several people warn about using the sexy plant spray with grow lights bc it will burn the leaves. They say place the plant away from the sun or lights until completely dry.

I agree with the others, insecticidal soap (probably any soap) and neem are both ingredients that can damage leaves if they are exposed to sun or bright light after these ingredients have been applied. This plant maybe was just more sensitive than the others, which can happen. I hope your plant will be okay except for the cosmetic damage, and maybe it just prefers dusting and using water to get its leaves clean!
