Hi everyone! I am extremely new to here and also to being a plant mom. This is my first plant ever and I have almost no idea where to start. I’ve had her for about a month and realize now that she was previously not receiving enough light. As a result, she has brown leaves at the root. My question is: should I remove the dead leaves? Or should I leave them in place? I humbly ask for any tips that might help. I want to keep my Zz alive.

hi! i think i would remove the yellow/brown leaf on the very left, but the brown “leaves” you mentioned are just the old sheaths that the leaves used to be wrapped in as protection while they grew. you can remove them if you’d like, but they’re not going to hurt your plant!

I agree with removing the yellow leaf. Personally, I do unwrap the brown sheaths from my ZZ just bc I think it looks better 😇

Im also a somewhat new plant mom, but I’ve had a ZZ plant for many years. Mine was in a dark corner of my room since I got it practically and it grew really leggy, so make sure you give it enough light, but just not direct sunlight or it’ll burn the leaves. I also have been really lazy when it comes to watering and my plant loves that. Water it once a month (or less!!!) and it’ll do great!
