I was told to leave them in water for longer but they’re turning black, and some aren’t even growing. What’s going on? Is it root rot but how else am I supposed to do this?

Scindapsus can take a long time to root. As long as the stems aren’t mushy and there are white roots I wouldn’t worry about some parts of them being darker. When you see smaller roots growing from the bigger roots (secondary roots), they’re ready to pot up safely.

black roots are ok and they take awhile to propagate. just remember to change the water weekly

You should be good. I’ve had one in water for probably two months. It had one long primary root but I’m still waiting on secondary to develop.
