my roommate has this calathea plant and noticed this has been happening to its leaves, any ideas what caused it and how to fix it?

    I can’t say for sure but looks like too much water, maybe.

      I agree that it looks maybe like overwatering. If the brown areas are limp, that usually means too much water (I’m also looking at those puckered areas and the spot that’s nearly black). A crispy leaf especially at the edges (idk I feel like it’s often more uniform in how the brown spots are distributed) generally means underwatering. Humidity and light and other things also play a role, though!

    Anything on the underside of the leaves small white clusters?

      no white clusters, the underside of the leaf is also browning

    Try giving higher humidity to this plant consider a humidifier or pebble tray
