Check for root rot, these plants are very sensitive. Lack of humidity, too much calcium in water, and even light can make them crunchy. Just make sure there is no excess water sitting in the soil to ensure no root rot. Spray them roots with 3% hydrogen peroxide

If some are peeling away, or if you run the roots under some water and it’s dark in color, not light or white, then cut the dark roots off and soak the root ball in peroxide. I would follow Adian’s advice regardless of the color fo the roots, as it will kill any lingering bacteria from overwatering or root rot. Removing some of that moist soil and replacing it with a chunky, well-draining mix will help the plant dry out faster, and the peroxide helps bring extra oxygen to the roots in the process. Hope this helps.
