Virginia bluebells showing some brown bits on the stem close to the soil. Something worth concerning about? Been battling a gnats problem for over a week.

I'm not sure about growing Virginia bluebells but adult fungus gnats do not generally cause problems for the plant. The larva however can damage the roots. You can trap the adults with a sticky trap and treat the soil with mosquito dunks or other type of insecticide that will kill the larvae. If you do both then you will attack them from both ends of their life cycle. Also make sure the soil is not kept too moist as fungus gnats like to breed in moist soil.
