So this was on our front step in the winter when we moved in, mid December. It looks like a house leek. And now that I’m getting into plants, I’d love to see if the parts that are somehow still looking alive are salvageable somehow before I just toss it or what I should do? I’ve never had a succulent before!

Yup it is a House Leek aka Hens & Chicks. My friend has a similar set up & I recently took some cuttings. Am trying to figure them out myself. Here's what I've learned. They grow fast and under leaves perish. Your setup is definitely salvageable. I'd just prune the really dead ones & clean up the ones like 1st pic and plant it back in. For the large one you could clip it and plant separately like I did. Recommend taking out a lot of the soil I imagine is in that pot and replacing it with rocks or LECA. Even in chunky soil these plants get waterlogged. That's why I planted mine in Pon (lava rocks) with Osmocote slow release fertilizer for nutrients.

Thank you so so much for this!! I will def be pruning and cleaning them up then! I had no idea about the soil and rocks either, so that’s extremely helpful!🩷

Hope it works out for both of us! The experimentation is part of the experience! 😜

They should be able to stay out all year. Best to protect them from getting too much moisture including snow. Mine are in pots near the front porch. During winter I place them under the porch roof for protection. In summer I protect them from long periods of rain.
