Any suggestions on how to help my plant? It used to be so big a beautiful and now she’s struggling so much and leaves are drying up often ;( The watering schedule hasn’t changed. When the problem first started I repotted, weeks later when that didn’t work I moved her to a different spot to see if it would like that better. Now it’s been months of slowly losing all her leaves. Thanks for any suggestions!

These like a lot of humidity and consistently moist (but not soaking wet) soil. They’re picky lol. They’re also sensitive to tap water sometimes, I give mine distilled. I also have mine in a greenhouse cabinet it’s been doing so much better since I put it in there, lots of new leaves!

Thank you! I’ll try that, I don’t have a greenhouse but since the water was the main consistent here do you think switching to distilled would help or put it in more shock?

It won’t hurt! Not sure where you live, but mine loves rainwater also so if you have a storm coming, stick her outside! (out of direct sun)

Also, I hate to say it because I am a big anti-self-watering-pot person lol…. but they are honestly great for calathea. I struggled in the beginning with not watering often enough, but a self watering pot has helped a lot. I pull the wick part up to about the middle of my soil level so it stays evenly moist, and keep the water level below the drain holes of the inner pot so it’s not sitting in water, just slowly absorbing it through the cotton wick.

Lindsey hit the nail on the head for these plants, also I’d say that it’s probably in a bit of shock since it was repotted and moved to a different location, with picky plants you have to baby them a lot. So when you do repot don’t disturb the root ball at all, and if you have to move locations, try and do it as gradually as you can. Or do a greenhouse cabinet like Lindsey has for hers!

I waited a few weeks in between each change to try to ease it in but try and fix it. Should I leave it in the same spot longer or try something else? Thanks for the input!

Hmmmm, what’s the conditions of that spot, temp, humidity, light exposure from what direction (compass), ac/heating vents?
