It looks like you have a little African violet there. First though, a layer of white fuzz on the surface of the soil isn’t necessarily bad. It’s usually a healthy harmless fungi that only indicates healthy soil. Some people just don’t like the looks of it, but I wouldn’t worry about fuzz on the soil. Your little violet looks like it needs some pruning and removal of dead blossoms and any dead leaves. Never water your violet from the top. Water will harm the leaves and the crown of the plant. You always want to bottom water and let it soak up the water from the tray. I just pour water in the tray and I let it soak up water for about an hour at least, then pour out any excess water because you don’t want the plant to sit in water. It will rot the roots. The most common mistake with violets I’ve found is over watering. They like moisture but they like to dry out a little bit but not totally. I think you got this! The plant looks okay. Any yellowing leaves could be a sign of root rot so if that becomes a problem you can try to save it by removing all the soil and trimming off all the rotten slimy roots and spray them with hydrogen peroxide. Then plant it back into brand new soil and a disinfected pot. This doesn’t always work but it’s worth a try if your plant is sentimental. Otherwise, don’t feel bad and just go get you a new little violet and try again. If at first you don’t succeed, try try again!!! Good luck!
