How often do you water? And how much sun does it get?

It gets a lot of sun it's less than 2 feet from a north facing window and I water when ever it is dry no strict schedule

Hmm, north windows get light but it tends to not be very strong, do you have a south window? I would reduce the watering (they store water, so should be happy being fully dry for a week or up to two weeks sometimes before watering again) and increase its light if possible, and see how it goes

North is not enough light for a succulent. I would also get this out of plastic and into a small terra cotta pot with well draining succulent soil

whatever potting mix you have with extra perlite. personally, i use fox farm ocean forest as the base for all my plants and add amendments per plant. a lot of people here like espoma cactus and succulent soil right out of the bag.

It seems that the yellowing of the lower leaves of your friend’s succulent could be caused by a few common issues: 1. Overwatering: Succulents are very sensitive to excess moisture, and overwatering can cause their leaves to turn yellow and mushy. Make sure the soil dries out completely between waterings. You can check by sticking your finger about an inch into the soil—if it feels dry, then it’s time to water. 2. Improper Drainage: Ensure the pot has drainage holes, allowing excess water to escape. If the pot retains water, it can cause root rot, which may lead to yellowing leaves. 3. Sunlight Issues: Although your friend mentions the plant gets a lot of sun, being near a north-facing window might not be providing enough light. Succulents typically do best in bright, indirect sunlight. Try moving the plant to a sunnier spot, like an east or south-facing window. 4. Natural Aging: It’s normal for the bottom leaves of a succulent to age and die off. If it’s just a couple of leaves at the bottom and the rest of the plant looks healthy, gently remove the yellowing leaves to allow the plant to focus on new growth. Your friend can try adjusting the watering schedule, improving drainage, or relocating the plant for better light. Hopefully, this will help the succulent thrive!
