Hello! Some of my bigger plants (fig tree and Thai monsterra) have little fruit fly looking bugs. How do I get rid of those and help? I put those plants outside for now after I did their watering which is when I noticed the flies. Help!

Probably fungus gnats. Get some sticky traps and let the soil dry out
3 likesThe BTI beneficial bacteria in Mosquito Bits/Dunks and BMI drops, the liquid version of BTI, is the best for completely getting rid of them. Use these every time you water in the future to never see them again. Water only when the soil dries out and not by any schedule. Verify the soil needs water before watering regardless of the schedule. 🪴🍀
3 likesI checked BMI drops on Amazon, and couldn’t find it. Would you please send me the exact name of your product? I would like to compare it to the other products I currently use for fungus gnats. TIA!
0 likesI agree if you also do a water and 3% peroxide solution that should help. Just look up the ratio on google and water your plants with it. It kills their eggs which they lay in the soil.
1 likeI use peroxide with all my plants when I water. I understand they add oxygen to the roots of your plants, which is very beneficial. I started using it because I had fungus gnats. The ratio I use is 4 cups to 1 gallon; it seems like a lot, but if you buy the McKesson 4 pack from Amazon, it’s the cheapest there is. Also, I use the pictured products from Microbe-Lift; with the use of these products, I don’t have fungus gnats anymore. I also use bug traps like Zevo, to not only catch fungus gnats, but to keep track of them, also. FYI: a lot of people use those yellow sticky traps, but I have used them, and I can tell you from personal experience, they will drive you absolutely CRAZY! They stick to absolutely everything, whether it’s your hair, your sleeve, your clothing, your water can, etc. You can try them to begin with, but as your population of fungus gnats decreases with the above products, I can assure you, you’ll be delighted to throw every single one of them away. I know this seems like a lot to do, but if fungus gnats get out of hand, they are a terrible problem, so this is really a small price to pay. Good luck! PS. I’ve also tried mosquito bits, and mosquito dunks, but I found using the below products, were much easier to use than the bits or dunks.
3 likesI second these drops!! They last so long too
1 likeOh thank you! I’ll look into those drops too
1 likeThese are the same drops I described. They package it in several forms with a bottle of liquid inside a jar. The name is MICROBE-LIFT BMC Biological Mosquito Control. Sorry for the confusion in the earlier post.
