Ants!! Is there a way to get rid of them without hurting the lizards, toads, and spiders that eat them? With the recent waves of rain, the ants moved to our outdoor potted plants and don’t want to leave. Most plants are succulents, cactuses, or flowers but we also have herbs and peppers.

Coffee grounds. I swear it works. You'll get a few stragglers but they'll eventually go away as well. I've used that and peppermint oil on a cotton ball. They both work really good I'm not sure if the peppermint is ok for your animals though. Google that.

I’ll try those, thanks! Easy to use because I have them on hand already.

This may not be what you’re looking for, but when we had a problem with ants getting in our house, we put a little dish of honey right where they were coming in. They loved the honey, so they came in, ate, and immediately left. They never traveled to the rest of our house. Not sure if this would work outside.

I have honey and can see what they do. Thank you ☺️

I’ve been plagued by ants before too. I really soaked the potted plants to make the pot unsuitable for the ant nest and then they start to relocate. I put a pot of discarded soil next to the flooded pot with sticks for ramps for the ants to travel and they moved the entire colony to the empty pot of dirt! Within a day the ant nest was moved from my plant pots. I’ve also used diatomaceous earth powder to help deter ants.

I have some diatomaceous earth and need to use it. I’ll give it a try! We basically live in “Waterworld” over here, so maybe the ants could be coaxed to moving their digs with encouragement and twigs. Thanks!

If you don’t want to kill them, maybe offering them a dry empty pot of soil will encourage them to move. The twig and stick “highways” did facilitate the ants relocating from my pots
