Hi everyone! My snake plant lives in my salon (tons of windows, indirect sun from about 10am-6pm every day and watering once a week and has lived in this spot for a year with 0 issues) I returned to work from a weekend away and noticed some of the big pieces had what I’m assuming is root rot, and had fallen out of the pot onto the floor. Please help me salvage what is left of her! These are photos from last week vs. today

This has happened to me, too. It did fine for the longest time and then one day she fell apart. I transplanted the healthiest part of the plant into dry soil and it seems to be better. I do not water it often at all! I took two of the damaged leaves and cut the obvious damage off and put in water to see if I can grow some roots. I’ll be interested to see what others say. Good luck.

Amy, water propagation can take a VERY long time with snake plants. If you have rooting powder you would probably see much faster results with letting the cut end callus over (air dry for 2-3 days), apply the rooting powder and just putting it in soil.

I would say its an overwatering issue. These can go a loooong time between watering as they hold a lot of water in their leaves. I have one a similar size and I water it once every 4-6 weeks…. I’d pull it out and remove anything rotten, repot in fresh soil (and downsize if needed) wait a bit before watering again and see how it goes :)

Kate, I agree with GreenLeaf that you are probably over watering and may be dealing with root rot. If you don’t use a hydrometer to check moisture levels to know when it is very dry I would not water more than 1 x a month. Keep us posted on your rescue!

cut the healthy portion, allow it to callous, and then place in water. it will grow roots in a couple months or so.
