Hey people! My poor miniature umbrella tree is not exactly thriving.. stem has turned brown and many of its leaves are falling :( Send help as soon as you can. Hopefully she pulls through. I wonder if I might’ve over watered? I just recently left for a trip and gave her an extra misting.

The stem looks like the plant could be experiencing root rot which in most cases is pretty unsalvageable without chopping it down and repotting in new soil. I find my umbrella tree prefers drying out between watering to being overwatered. Another reason it might not be drying up is if it doesn’t get enough light

What can I do to make it flourish again? I’ve tried to drain it already but it seems to be getting worse :(

Remove the plant from its current soil, rinse the roots to find dark, mushy roots & cut those off. Then I’d treat the remaining roots with a fungicide bath (look up online but it’s likely a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water) before repotting. You may also want to chop the stem back a bit so it’s not sustaining the whole plant in the process of recovering. I sometimes will chop the top of my dying plants and try propagating that in water so I have two attempts at recovery. Then make sure to water once repotted and let it fully dry out before watering again! (drainage holes, proper sunlight & well draining soil is a must for this)

The top looks equally as brown as the bottom.. should that deter me from cutting it and propagating?

I feel like it may be less likely to survive in that case, but worth a shot
