Anyone know what these black and red places are and what’s causing them? He lives outside in eastern Kentucky and gets about 4-5 hours of direct sunlight a day. Any advice would be appreciated!

outdoor plants always get a little roughed up — might have been wet and then burned in the sun. i think it will be ok in the long run 😊

Try bottom watering it to avoid the leaves getting wet when you water it and persisting the problem, and try to avoid watering anything outside during the afternoon or hottest part of the day, instead going for early afternoons and before the sun sets, to further help preventing this as well as shocking your plants, and never use ice cold water. Always try to use room temperature water. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I don’t water the leaves, but we had a lot of rain lately. Full on storm with the sun shining at one point. 😂 I use rainwater that’s stored outside so that’s good. Thank you so much for the tips!

No problem! Sounds like the rain was the culprit here if that was the case, especially if it’s been rained on more than once. Jades don’t enjoy overwatering either, so perhaps try bringing your plant in before storms if you can. I keep mine indoors on a south windowsill (or the brightest window that gets the most light throughout a day), but if you don’t have any south windows, occasionally bringing it in when it rains or gets too cold should work just fine. Good on you for using rainwater! 😉
