I really am trying

Hi! Someone gave me part of their fully grown mint plant. They pulled a piece from theirs, and it had a good amount leaves and some roots. I placed it in water until I was able to buy soil (2-3 days) and about a week ago I planted it in a ceramic pot with drainage and placed it outside. Since then, the leaves are looking and feeling dry, there are a few that are still soft and not crunchy, and the soil has yet to dry. What did I do wrong? And what do I do now? Please help me.

    The crunchy parts won't come back to life so take all of them off and see what you got left (maybe you can use the crunchy ones as a seasoning for some foods) when was the last time you watered it? I know you said the soil hasn't dried out yet. It could be shock. Sorry i can't help much i am sure someone else knows about mint plants more then i do.

    There may not be enough roots left to support the leaves and stems. Transplant stress adds to it. Location changes creates additional shock from new water, new soil, new size pot and new lighting. I recommend trimming most of it leaving the stems less than 6 inches long. This takes the stress off the roots to provide water and nutrients to the plant. Add rooting hormone powder or liquid to stimulate root growth. Add diluted fertilizer. Add SuperThrive Plant Vitamins to the fertilizer water. Place in a south window or outside. They like all day sunlight. You may have to reduce the pot size to be slightly bigger than the root ball to prevent root rot later especially if the soil takes more than 5 days to almost dry out. Work in extra perlite to increase drainage. 🪴🍀
